Bank will carry out review on Upton Lloyd’s closure plan

25th April 2018

Bank bosses have agreed to carry out an urgent review into the plans to close the Lloyd’s Bank in Upton-upon-Severn – the last bank in the town.

And the Lloyd’s Bank chief executive António Horta-Osório has agreed to put the plans on hold while its officials re-look at the proposal to shut down the branch and close the only 24 hour cashpoint in Upton.

The CEO has written to West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin after she raised serious concerns about the plans which will directly impact local people, businesses and the many thousands of visitors who come to Upton each summer.

The bank had previously confirmed that there were no plans to close Upton’s last bank and Harriett met with the CEO two years ago to press for a continued bank presence in the town.

Harriett commented: “I am grateful for the chief executive to respond so quickly and positively to my request. Although I am clear that the argument has not yet been made to keep the branch, I am pleased that they are following the correct protocols regarding the last branch in town.

“Local people are signing a petition which I will share with the CEO but most importantly, we now need to make the case to make sure local people, traders and tourists are all reassured that the banks have not deserted Upton.

“There is some way to go yet but I am pleased that at least the bank is listening to feedback and is prepared to put the plans on hold to take a second look.”
