County farmers to have their say on future funding

28th February 2018

Farmers’ groups and local people are being urged to have their say as the Government consults on ways to support farmers as we leave the European Union.

The Government has this week launched a consultation ahead of legislation to reform the way farmers are funded, helping them to become more profitable and to make the best possible use of our valued agricultural land.

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin welcomed the plans to consult local people and urged farmers and agricultural workers to have their say.

Harriett commented: “Agriculture is an important part of our local economy and I regularly meet with farming groups to talk about the future of the sector.

“Food security has been a central part of that discussion and I am pleased to see that the Government has committed to taking this once-in-a-generation opportunity to reform domestic agriculture policy.

“I know that this is a topic that is of intense interest across my rural constituency which depends on farmers and farming jobs and having spent lots of time chatting to local experts I am aware of the innovative thinking that is springing up as part of this review process.

“The consultation will allow the Government to develop plans which will help farmers to be more profitable and I hope that all those working in the sector will take the time to engage in this conversation.”
