County gets £2.4M adult social care boost

17th October 2018

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed an extra funding boost for the county council to help improve adult social care during the winter months.

The £2.4 million cash injection will help Worcestershire County Council to improve services as winter approaches, causing increased demand on the care system.

The money will be used to help get patients home from hospital quicker freeing up beds. The £2.4 million is in addition to £800,000 which will go to the NHS to plan for winter pressures and the £29 million capital investment project which is delivering extra new beds at Worcestershire Royal Hospital next year.

Harriett commented: “This is fabulous news for local people and it is part of a number of cash awards which will help out local health service and county council to cope with extra demand this winter.

“The building project is an important part of the broader plan to add capacity at our local hospitals but this cash will be welcomed by the county council, who struggle to cope with the extra demand throughout the winter.

“For most people, the best place to recover after a spell in hospital is in their own homes and I look forward to hearing more detail on how the health service and the county plan to get best value from this cash injection.”
