County schools get Easter bonus from £1.4 billion repair fund

4th April 2019

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed news that schools across the county will be getting funds to help with urgent repairs and improvements.

Dyson Perrins Academy will be getting funds to replace a seriously dilapidated wall at the school’s gym and Pershore High School will get funding to help with new fencing and other urgent remedial work.

Four primary schools in West Worcestershire – Hanley Swan St Gabriel’s with St Mary’s, Bredon Hill Academy, Somers Park and Powick – have all been awarded funds to carry out repair works including replacing heating systems, alarm systems and re-roofing.

The Condition Improvement Fund makes awards every year to help schools deal with urgent repairs and the Education and Skills Funding Agency assesses bids based on criteria including urgency and affordability before allocating the extra cash.

Harriett has been asked to support bids from a number of local schools and has discussed the funding process with the Secretary of State for Education.

Harriett commented: “This fund will be some welcome good news for local schools who have put in bids for urgent repair work and I have recently met with the head teachers of both Dyson Perrins and Pershore High School to discuss and support their bids.

“It’s great news that these projects have got their formal backing and I look forward to visiting both schools again soon to see the difference the work has made.”
