County schools win classroom improvement funds

3rd April 2018

County schools have been awarded funds as part of a £514 million programme to improve classrooms and school buildings.

Two secondary schools and six primary schools in West Worcestershire have been made cash awards and the news was welcomed by MP Harriett Baldwin who wrote to Education Minister Nick Gibb supporting a cash request for Hanley Castle High School.

Both Hanley Castle High School and Dyson Perrins Academy will get funds to carry out building improvements as well as funds for six local primary schools.

Harriett commented: "There is an annual fund which is made available to schools to carry out repairs or replace older buildings to keep them safe or in good working order.

"In most instances the projects are small-scale but I know how much of a difference they make to the schools and the students.

"I've been engaged in a dialogue with the head teacher at Hanley Castle about applying to this fund and I am glad that the school continues to get Government money to carry out important improvements.

"I've also spoken to other schools recently who need to carry out improvements and this latest set of awards shows that the Government is eager to help fund work which gives our local children the best possible places to learn."

Over 1,200 schools and colleges across the country have benefited from the Condition Improvement Fund. Locally Madresfield, Malvern Parish, Great Witley, Sommers Park Great Malvern and St Matthias Primary Schools all won their bids.

The fund supports projects which help to keep schools safe and in good working order as well as helping provide funds for good- or outstanding-rated schools to expand.
