Harriett answers student election questions

7th June 2017

Harriett Baldwin has repeated her commitment to press for a better funding deal for county schools during an election question time with secondary school pupils.

Harriett was taking part in the special question and answer session at The Chantry, in Martley, covering subjects rainging from policing to the use of Trident.

The Westminster hopeful outlined facts from the Conservative manifesto incluidng the pledge of an extra £4 billion for schools over the next five years as well as £23 billion to be spent on school buildings.

Last month, when Harriett was still MP for West Worcestershire, she wrote on behalf of the school to the Department for Education in support of expansion plans which will help the school to secure more funding from 2018.

Harriett commented: “This was a great opportunity to answer questions posed directly by younger people who wont be voting in this election but many will get chance to vote next at the next national poll.

“I always enjoy visiting local schools and it is clear many of the young people at the Chantry are politically engaged and have profoundly-held views.

“I took the opportunity to outline some of the facts from the Conservative manifesto including sharing the latest details on important funding commitments for schools like the Chantry.

“The way funding is distributed is simply not fair on our county schools and it has been the top priority of mine ever since I first elected.

“I have welcomed the steps already taken by the Conservative Government to redress this historical imbalance and I will continue to make the case for an improved funding deal if I am re-elected on June 8.”
