Malvern Conservatives Green Action Day

21st April 2007

Conservatives Champion Home Grown Vegetables in Pickersleigh

Malvern Conservatives held a Green Action Day on Saturday April 21st in order to create a vegetable garden for a Pickersleigh resident with disabilities. Growing your own vegetables is an excellent way to become greener and reduce food miles.

Conservatives decided to organise the project following a suggestion from a Pickersleigh resident with multiple disabilities. Half a dozen volunteers worked hard to dig out a vegetable patch, plant vegetables and relocate some trees.

Harriett Baldwin, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate and Green Action Organiser said, "This project is a great example of the kind of social action that lies at the heart of the modern Conservative Party - not just talking about change, but actually making it happen. Conservatives are dedicated to getting out and being active and making a real difference to life in Malvern.

I would like to thanks all the volunteers who came along for their hard work. Working together to help everyone in the area become greener really helps foster a sense of community. If anyone else is interested in volunteering, please do call us on 01684 573469."

Steff Stowe, the Pickersleigh resident whose garden was transformed said, "I am really pleased with my new vegetable patch - it has radishes, beetroot, rocket, chives and strawberries to start, but I am looking to add other vegetables and I am very grateful for the hard work of these volunteers who have delivered something I could not have achieved on my own."
