MP calls for action on Upton bank closure plans

18th April 2018

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has expressed disappointment with the decision to close the Lloyd’s Bank branch in Upton-upon-Severn.

The bank announced plans to close the branch as part of a national closure programme. The branch was reduced to part-time opening in 2015 and Harriett met with the bank’s chief executive who pledged to support the bank’s presence in the town.

Harriett has been in touch with Lloyd’s Bank since the latest announcement and is planning a formal meeting with bank officials to discuss the issue.

She is also planning to collect signatures on a petition which she will send to the chief executive Antonio Horta Osorio asking for him to personally review this decision. Harriett will be meeting with traders in the town on Friday to discuss how this will impact trade and tourism.

Harriett commented: “I am deeply disappointed to be let down in this way by the Chief Executive of Lloyd’s, who promised me in person that he had no plans to close the branch.

“As it is the last branch in town I will hold the bank’s feet to the fire to follow the correct agreed protocol and carry out a full impact assessment on people and businesses.

“I am also starting a petition this Friday which I will leave at the Library in Upton and we can send to the Chief Executive.”
