MP calls for swift action on Malvern Vale roads

12th January 2018

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has called on a local housing developer to complete much needed work on the drains around a Malvern housing estate.

Harriett has met with both housing developer Persimmon Homes and experts at Severn Trent to identify problems holding up the approval of the drainage system at Malvern Vale.

Without Severn Trent's approval, Persimmon cannot hand over ownership of the roads to Worcestershire County Council which will in turn allow the county to maintain and grit the roads during cold weather.

Harriett first met the housing developer in 2016 to raise concerns about the delays handing over the roads and assurances were given that the work would be completed.

However, two years on, the outstanding work has still not been completed and Harriett returned to Malvern Vale to discuss the issue with Severn Trent experts and to try and find some speedy solutions.

Harriett commented: "I first raised this issue with the housing developer more than two years ago. A lot has been done on this fast-growing estate but I am frustrated that there are still issues which need to be resolved.

"I did meet with the local Persimmon management who again assured me that their tasks had been completed but Severn Trent shared with me a long list of outstanding work.

"I have written once again to the chief executive at Persimmon Homes in the hope he will intervene and help to get these issues fixed. Without this work, the roads cannot be adopted and then Worcestershire County Council will be able to take over their maintenance.

"With a new school being constructed on the estate, time is now of the essence - the work must be completed swiftly to get the roads finally finished and managed by the local authority."
