MP gets a buzz visiting electric car start-up

27th July 2017

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin got a real buzz from a visit to an electric car company which has started up in Upton-upon-Severn.

The MP dropped in to see Indra, based in Upton’s Severn Business Park, which converts cars to run on electric power but the company is also developing its own technologies to get the most from the potential offered by this new industry.

Today, the Government announced that all new cars sold from 2040 won’t be able to use petrol or diesel engines and Harriett offered her support to the company as it develops important new technologies for the car industry.

Indra was founded in 2013 by Malvern entrepreneur Mike Schooling and the company has already made a series of important alliances to help it grow quickly.

The company currently employs seven staff and is looking to triple its workforce – and Mike enlisted the help of his local MP to try and find some new premises in the county to allow for rapid expansion.

Harriett commented: “Indra has some really exciting plans and I got a real buzz learning about what could be an amazing new business.

“With today’s Government announcement, it is clear that all cars will need to be using different power technologies beyond 2040 and I am sure Indra has a foothold for stunning future success.

“We have talked about the challenges of growing quickly and I have already started to spread the word to try and get them the right place to grow quickly, locally.

“Malvern has produced generation after generation of brilliant brains and it is so important that we back them so they can reap the commercial rewards of their ingenuity.”
