MP leads successful NHS multi-million cash boost

19th July 2017

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed a much-needed cash boost which will see major investment coming into local hospitals.

The MP joined her Worcestershire MP colleagues to meet with Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt and Hospitals Minister Philip Dunne to support a bid for £29 million to improve facilities at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital’s emergency department.

The cash, which was confirmed today, will also see investment carried out at other Acute hospitals across the county following the approval of a plan to re-configure health services last week.

Harriett offered her support to the bid and worked with her Parliamentary colleagues to press for the investment in a number of meetings in the last couple of weeks.

Harriett said: “We have all known that the Worcestershire Royal has been under huge pressures and badly needs significant investment to improve its capacity and improve the way it deal with urgent patients.

“As a group of MPs we were unified in our support for this bid and once the GP commissioners signed off the re-organisation plan, the bid was ready to be submitted, with our full backing.

“I am pleased the Department has worked so quickly to get this project approved and I plan to discuss this matter with the NHS Acute Trust senior management to understand their timeline to deliver on this work.

“We all want to see the best possible health service when we need it most and I hope that local people will see how hard we are all trying to give the staff the best possible facilities to keep doing a great job.”
