MP looks to stars of the future at space apprentice event

16th May 2019

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin joined a Malvern company celebrating apprentices working at the cutting edge of the aerospace, security and defence sector.

Harriett met with Emilis Tobulevicius who went to school at The Chase and now works as an apprentice at Borwell, which is based at Malvern Hills Science Park.

The MP was attending an event in Westminster marking the work of 12,000 apprenticeships provided by the UK’s aerospace, defence, security and space industries. The event was sponsored by Collins Aerospace – which is also sited on Malvern Hills Science Park.

The sector is estimated to be worth £30 billion to the UK economy and there are many small and medium sized businesses working in the sector based in and around Malvern.

The MP chatted to Emilis and Borwell managing director Steve Borwell-Fox about the opportunities being offered to local people to work in a fast-growing business as well as undergoing training and education.

Harriett commented: “I have always been a strong supporter of the apprenticeship programme and wherever I visit, I try to encourage local employers to take on an apprentice.

“Borwell is one of the great Malvern cyber valley success stories and growing their business involves growing the skills of the brilliant young people in our area.”
