MP pledges Lent recycling drive

14th February 2018

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin is urging people to think about recycling as the Government launches a series of initiatives to help the environment.

And Harriett will herself put recycling at the top of her agenda during Lent as she pledges to increase recycling at home and at work.

The Government has recently banned microbeads in beauty products and is looking at ways to reduce the number of plastic bottles used in the UK.

MPs across Westminster are leading the way with an initiative to 'pass on plastic' and reduce their reliance on single use plastic bottles.

Harriett commented: "We all care about the environment and the Government is working hard to lead the way with action to reduce our reliance on plastic bags and to ban microbeads.

"Each year I give something up for Lent, and I really wanted to find a way to give up plastic, but pragmatically it's just not possible, so I'm going to do my best to use much less plastic in Lent and beyond.

"Over the coming weeks and months I will be trying to make some changes to recycle more, make better use of re-usable materials and to try and encourage people around me to do the same.

"Every time I visit a local school, the message comes back loud and clear how much young people are eager to protect our environment and I commit to take their enthusiastic message back to Westminster that we can all do more."
