MP praises environmental advances on Bredon Hill

26th June 2018

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has praised efforts to protect precious plants and wildlife on the historic Bredon Hill.

And the MP went to the top of the hill on the edge of the Cotswolds to chat to the leadership team about a series of measures to improve the environment across the hills.

The stunning countryside attracts 23 million visitors each year and Harriett made a trip up Bredon Hill – which is part of her West Worcestershire constituency – to discuss the plans to make more of the popular tourist attraction.

She viewed wild flower meadows on the hills which will help to improve the environment and protect wildlife. Harriett has taken on a role as a ‘protected species champion’ for the endangered Violet Click Beetle, which is believed to live on Bredon Hill and only two other locations in the UK.

Harriett commented: “Bredon Hill is a wonderful place for a country walk and I regularly visit this part of the Cotswolds to enjoy the peace and fresh air.

“There is a lot of work being carried out to improve the quality of the wild meadows and help to provide natural habitats for wildlife. As someone who was taken on a tour of the site to look for the endangered Violet Click Beetle, I know how the important the work is to protect this precious natural environment.

“The land is already designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty but the management team clearly want to make more of this area and there are plans to approach the Government to convert the area into a National Park.

“I will be listening to local views on this one and have asked the management team to keep me informed.”
