MP to raise concerns as Barclays announces branch closure

4th September 2017

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has urged Tenbury people and businesses to speak up after Barclays confirmed it will be shutting its doors in the town later this year.

The bank wrote to local customers last week announcing the closure and blaming the decision on low usage figures. Harriett has urged customers to either get in touch with her or the bank direct with their concerns.
The branch will close on December 8 and local people are being urged to bank in either Ludlow or Leominster or carry out banking at Tenbury’s post office.

Harriett also urged customers to consider switching banks including moving to the local TSB which will remain open after Barclays has shut its doors.

Harriett said: “I was disappointed to hear that Barclays has made this decision, especially as every time I walk past the branch it seems to be busy.

“I always encourage people to shop around to get the best deals and I do urge customers who are unhappy with this decision to look elsewhere to see if they can get a better bank elsewhere.

“Having recently met with the TSB regional director, I know that they are committed to Tenbury and offer a great level of personal service.

“I’ve heard that people are already enquiring about moving banks and I know from my time as a Treasury Minister that there are processes in place to make switching easy and quick. The Post Office counter staff can also help.”
