MP: Upton’s road improvements will take a summer break

1st May 2018

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has this week welcomed the news that the first phase of work to raise a main road into Upton is now completed.

The project to raise the road along Upton-upon-Severn’s marina has made great progress and the contractors are now planning to cease work to free up the road for the peak tourist season.

The road is a vital link for people visiting Malvern, the Three Counties Showground and the popular music festivals which take place in Upton.

Harriett welcomed the progress and praised the decision to ease traffic restrictions to make sure Upton’s traders and tourist business is not affected by traffic issues through the summer.

Harriett commented: “I have had an update from Worcestershire County Highways team on the latest progress on these major works and I am told they are ahead of schedule and are able to lift the major traffic restrictions for the summer tourist season.

“The work is impressive and will make a huge difference to the town’s flood resilience once it is completed. I am pleased that the team has planned to ease traffic flow through the summer and the work will recommence later this year.

“Upton is very much open for business and I hope that we have a dry and sunny summer to welcome people, not just to Upton but to our many impressive tourist attractions across West Worcestershire.”
