MP urges Bank Holiday travellers to plan ahead

16th May 2018

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has urged people travelling across the county to plan ahead to avoid major delays on road and rail links during the late May Bank Holiday.

Bridge improvement works at the A4440 will mean that a stretch of the busy link road will be closed between May 24 and June 1 with road diversions in place along London Road and Bath Road in Worcester.

However, the work will also mean that the train line will be closed over the bank holiday weekend from May 26 to May 30 meaning that trains will not run between Hereford and Evesham as well as affecting trains to Cheltenham.

Replacement bus services are in place but this will add extra delays to train journeys and Harriett has been asked to publicise the planned closures to encourage people to plan ahead.

Harriett commented: “The bridge replacement work at the A4440 will be a huge undertaking which will have a serious impact on road and rail journeys over the bank holiday weekend.

“Both Great Western Railways and Worcestershire County Council have dedicated web pages explaining the route closures and I strongly urge people to plan well ahead and where possible make alternative travel arrangements.

“Trains won’t be stopping at all at Pershore so local people need to be aware and plan to use either replacement buses or travel by car. People travelling west towards Malvern and beyond will need to allow extra time for their journey or plan an alternative route by-passing the diversion.”
