BBC asked to focus on Tenbury for regional flood news from now on

23rd July 2008

Harriett Baldwin has asked the BBC to send news crews to Tenbury in future rather than to Upton-upon-Severn when water levels are rising.

Speaking to Patrick Burns, Regional Political Editor for the BBC, Harriett Baldwin said, "Thank you for covering flood risks in Upton-upon-Severn on so many news programmes. I am sure this high profile helped the Environment Agency secure funding for the town's flood defences. Now that Upton's money has provisionally been secured, please send future regional news crews to Tenbury Wells instead, so that the town can also benefit from a high media profile when flooding looks likely. The Environment Agency is in the process of updating its study of Tenbury Wells and its requirements. I believe a high media profile would help the town get the flood defence money it needs from the £800mm per year that will be available from 2011."
