Covid-19 delays Tenbury Post Office return

9th April 2020

Tenbury’s Post Office return has been delayed by the ongoing Covid-19 crisis but the temporary service will stay in operation, it was confirmed this week.

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has been briefed that the repair work at the town’s Spar, on Teme Street, has been halted while social distancing and essential travel restrictions are in place.

The Spar’s Post Office was expected to resume full operation later this month, but that deadline is likely to be missed. The temporary service, which visits the town one day a week, will continue while the Spar remains closed.

Harriett commented: “Clearly, the repair work on the flood-damaged Spar will need to be delayed, but I wanted to express my thanks to the Post Office for committing to running a temporary solution for the town.

“John Upton, who is based in Bromyard, is doing a great job running the temporary service and I have passed on my thanks to him on behalf of grateful residents and businesses in and around Tenbury.

“The local Post Office outlet network is also having to absorb extra demand and we are grateful for their hard work during this difficult time. I also want to thank the posties who are still out there delivering post and making sure essential items reach us at home.

“People should only visit the Post Office where the journey is essential and the Government instructions are clear – stay at home, help to protect the NHS and save lives.

“We all hope that the Tenbury Post Office can return to full operation as soon as possible but right now we all need to do our bit to allow the temporary service to run as smoothly as it can in these difficult times.”
