Harriett: Major train investment ‘is on the right track’

11th February 2020

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed the Government’s plans to press on with the new high-speed train line that will connect Birmingham and London.

The Prime Minister today confirmed that the Government intends to accelerate the major infrastructure project, tied to a major shakeup of local transport including £5 billion investment in bus services and cycle links.

Harriett has supported the HS2 project which will lead to economic regeneration for Birmingham and surrounding communities and create jobs and growth across the West Midlands.

Harriett commented: “I’ve supported HS2 because I am confident that it will unlock enormous economic potential for companies across the West Midlands.

“A 21st century rail network needs major investment and I am glad to see that alongside this pledge to fund HS2 the Government is looking to invest more in local transport.

“I’ve been a huge fan of improving cycle links across the county and I hope that Worcestershire County Council will look to take advantage of this investment.

“I also hope that the council will be ambitious about the use of cleaner, greener buses and I will be meeting with councillors shortly to discuss this.

“As we all develop strategies to act on climate change, one important step is to help people reduce their car journeys by improving public transport and making bike use simpler and safer.“
