Harriett repeats £3 million school fund boost

23rd November 2019

County schools will be getting over £3 million extra funding next year as part of a commitment to deliver a fairer funding deal pledged by Harriett Baldwin.

Harriett, whilst an MP, has campaigned actively to secure a better funding deal and under a Conservative Government, schools in West Worcestershire will get an average increase of six per cent more money for the next academic year.

Schools in West Worcestershire will get £54.4 million in funding from next September with funding at secondary schools averaging £5,129 per pupil and primary school pupils getting £4,509 per pupil. Harriett has written to head teachers informing them of the budget increases that every local school can expect next year.

The Government has announced £780 million extra money to help children with special educational needs, raised new teacher’s salaries to £30,000 by 2022-23 and fully funding increased contributions into the Teacher’s Pension Scheme, so that school leaders can focus as much of their resources as possible on the front line.

Harriett, who is the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for West Worcestershire, has also warned local people about a union-led mis-information campaign claiming schools will be worse off next year.

Harriett commented: “Both the Prime Minister and Chancellor have confirmed a new three year funding settlement to help schools to level up and increase their annual budgets from next year.

“It is much needed extra cash and as someone who has made school funding an absolute priority, this is welcome good news to share with local parents.

“I’ve also been concerned about recent false claims made by the unions and some of these are making their way onto the campaign trail causing alarm to local parents.

“I wanted to reassure local people that the UK Statistics Authority has called on the union to stop sharing inaccurate information amongst teachers and allow local people to base their choices on facts instead.”
