Harriett shares green policy news with ‘Time is Now’ local campaigners

26th June 2019

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin highlighted a range of recent environmental policy announcements with local campaigners who visited Westminster today.

The MP met with local people who travelled to London as part of a national campaign, attended by organisations including the Womens’ Institute, to raise awareness of global green issues.

Harriett updated the group on recent Government action to protect the planet including the recent bans on plastics such as cotton buds and straws, the charge on plastic shopping bags and the legislation introduced this week to commit to net zero carbon emissions in the UK by 2050.

They also discussed local issues including improving the number of electric car re-charging points, making more use of buses and rolling out the national free water bottle refill campaign across West Worcestershire.

Harriett commented: “I am proud of the steps the Government has already take to protect our environment such as the recent steps to reduce our dependence on plastics.

“The longer challenge to reduce emissions has also been wholeheartedly embraced and over the last couple of years we have seen important commitments to support the electric car industry and a reduction in our reliance on fossil fuels for generating power.

“It was really helpful to talk to local people who share my view that we can always do better and I know that they supported this Government’s stated ambition to be the first generation to leave our natural environment in a better state than we found it.”
