Harriett welcomes Brexit vote

23rd October 2019

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed the House of Commons vote which passed the second reading of the Withdrawal Agreement Bill.

MPs votes 329 to 299 – the first time a majority of MPs have voted for an agreement. Although the Bill has now been paused, MPs have shown that they support the Bill in principal ahead of further scrutiny.

Harriett commented: “I voted to back this deal and I am pleased that the majority of MPs have also confirmed their assent.

“I now voted four times in support of a deal which means that we leave the European Union in a smooth and orderly way. I am disappointed that MPs chose to vote against the timetabling motion for further scrutiny – which can mean only more dither and delay.

“More than anything else, we all want certainty as we carry out the task of delivering the result of the referendum. It is a shame that the Bill has now been paused, but I take some confidence from the fact that the House of Commons has now indicated the sort of deal that it will support as we approach the October 31 deadline.”
