Harriett welcomes multi-million pound local economy boost

4th August 2020

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has urged local business to plan for growth with the confirmation of a multi-million award to ‘build for growth’.

The Government has created a £900 million ‘Getting Building Fund’ and two key projects supported by the MP will get major cash injections.

The further growth plans for Malvern Hills Science Park, creating a new technology park, which will be backed with £1.85 million. The Tenbury flood defence scheme, which will protect 80 homes and 80 businesses, will get an extra boost with £500,000 confirmed from the fund on top of the £4.9 million confirmed by Environment Secretary George Eustice last month.

Harriett commented: “Over recent weeks, I have been lobbying hard to make sure that these two important ‘spade-ready’ projects get the backing they need to get them underway.

“This is a huge boost for the recovery plans for our local economy as we work our way back from the impact of coronavirus.

“The expectation is that these two projects will create jobs both in the short term and long term and I am particularly keen that this helps to create opportunities for young people.

“I plan to work closely with the Local Enterprise Partnership, who successfully led this process, to create a framework for creating new apprenticeships and using local contractors, and these two awards become a springboard to future economic growth.”
