MP’s action delivers replacement carriages for train commuters

29th October 2019

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed news that a train company will finally be returning to normal capacity after a summer of misery for county commuters.

Harriett called an urgent meeting with West Midlands Trains after hearing a series of reports from commuters about crushed journeys between Birmingham and Malvern.

The train company removed carriages from the line during the summer but it has located two replacement carriages from East Midlands Railway and they are expected to go into use on Friday, November 1.

In addition, the company has pledged to add extra capacity with two extra carriages to help deal with the Christmas market demand and further extra trains and carriages in December when the new timetable comes into effect.

Harriett commented: “I am glad that West Midlands Trains has listened to my complaints, and those of my constituents, and delved into its network to find extra carriages.

“The decision to remove carriages from service was, frankly, wrong and this has led to many unhappy rail customers.

“We still need to see the company deliver on its long- term promises of more carriages, more services and better investment in stations but I am pleased that it has been able to act and fix this issue.”
