MP backs local pothole fund

2nd April 2019

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed extra Government funding to help fill potholes and improve local roads.

Over £750,000 has been allocated to Worcestershire County Council as part of a £200 million national fund.

A quarter of the money will go directly to councils, with £151 million being used to reward examples of councils’ best practice – helping councils to invest in innovative technology that will improve the conditions of roads across the UK.

Harriett commented: “Each winter, the county council resumes its battle with the elements as cold and wet weather causes roads to deteriorate. The highways team does a great job responding to urgent requests for work and I am sure this extra money will be put to good use.

“However, I am pleasantly surprised at how well our county roads compare with other parts of the country and this is clear evidence of the proactive attitude Worcestershire takes to this issue.

“We can all do our bit by reporting potholes to the council and hopefully as Spring weather arrives, the pressure will ease on our busy local roads.”
