MP joins national spring cleaning squad

1st May 2019

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin hit the streets of Upton-upon-Severn last week to take part in the Great British Spring Clean.

And the MP urged local people to join in the national initiative which encourages people to improve their own public spaces and help to encourage more recycling.

Harriett visited Upton-upon-Severn with local resident Debbie Collings to help collect stray plastic bottles, recyclable rubbish and other materials which had been discarded.

The MP urged local people to go the extra mile to look out for discarded rubbish which can be recycled or form a ‘wombling squad’ to pick up litter.

Harriett was one of hundreds of MPs who, earlier this year, committed to carry out tasks to help our environment like litter picking, ditching plastics and reducing car journeys.

Harriett commented: “Our environment has been at the fore-front of the national conversation in recent weeks and I was keen to do my bit to help improve the places where we live.

“We are all taking on little personal challenges like reducing our use of plastics, walking and cycling rather than driving and even going out and giving our lovely rural areas a little spring clean.

“Local groups are already forming where they can get together to help clean up their local areas and I have already put one school in touch with Malvern Hills District Council to set up their own wombling group.

“I hope that many more people will be inspired to take their own little steps towards making our country the best possible place to live for us, our children and grand-children.”
