MP keeping fingers crossed for local students

12th August 2020

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has wished local students ‘good luck’ as they receive their exam results over the next two weeks.

Pupils will be getting A level and GCSE results based on teachers’ assessments after exams were cancelled owing to the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Government has today confirmed that students receiving their results will be given an extra safety net where students will be able to accept the grade that has been calculated by Ofqual, appeal against the grade or get the chance to sit the exam in the Autumn.

Harriett said: “This has been an extremely challenging year for students who were due to sit crucial exams this summer and coronavirus has meant that exam boards had to make extraordinary changes to make sure young people get their qualifications.

“The Department for Education has worked closely with Ofqual to try and find the right way to assess each student’s results and this triple lock will give them options if they haven’t got the results they were expecting.

“There is no perfect system, but I feel it is important that people are treated fairly and won’t be disadvantaged by coronavirus.

“I want to wish our local students good luck as they receive their exam results over the coming weeks, and I know that we can all see how important it is that our schools are able to get back to operating as normally as possible.”
