MP secures Tenbury flood defence debate

23rd March 2020

Tenbury’s permanent flood defence scheme will be debated in the House of Commons after West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin was granted an adjournment debate.

The slot, which will take place at the end of Parliamentary business on Wednesday, will mean that Harriett will get the chance to discuss the proposed scheme for Tenbury and a Government Minister will be required to respond.

Harriett has met with both Environment Secretary George Eustice and Floods Minister Rebecca Pow to discuss the proposed scheme and the importance of securing funding for the project after another devastating flood hit the town earlier this year.

Harriett commented: “I’ve been working continuously for the last 13 years trying to make the case for permanent defences for Tenbury and it has been devastating to see the town under water again.

“In recent weeks, I have had constructive conversations with both the Environment Agency and relevant Government Ministers, and I am pleased to have been offered the chance to lead this debate in Westminster.

“As well as airing the issue in the House of Commons, there is also a requirement that a member of the Government responds to my questions so I hope to get a formal view on how we can proceed with this vital issue for Tenbury’s home owners and businesses.”
