MP spies bright future for QinetiQ

23rd October 2020

Defence research company QinetiQ says it expects to keep growing as it develops a post-Covid recovery plan.

The company is the largest employer in the town and now employs more than 800 people at its site on St Andrew’s Road.

QinetiQ’s main business is supplying international defence contracts but it recently diversified and has expertise in cyber-security, regularly hiring new graduates to start careers in one of the UK’s fastest growing industries.

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin was given a briefing on the company’s current business plans by managing director James Willis who runs the Malvern site.

Harriett said: “Malvern has been at the heart of innovation for many decades and it is useful to hear how the latest generation of brilliant brains are thriving at QinetiQ’s Malvern site.

“Each year, I usually get to meet with the company’s new graduate intake but with Covid restrictions, many more people are working from home and a site visit has not been possible.

“But I’ve had a really helpful update on the company’s business plans and am encouraged that their head count seems to be stable and recruitment continues despite the global pandemic.

“Like many local technology employers, QinetiQ continues to look for software engineers and the message is clear that there are opportunities for people of all ages who want to add to their skills or re-train.

“I’m encouraged by the company’s positivity and hope that it comes out of this crisis stronger than ever offering more exciting careers to young people.”
