MP welcomes bank’s long-term ATM commitment

20th May 2019

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed a long-term commitment from Lloyds Bank to keep a 24-hour cashpoint service in Upton-upon-Severn.

The bank has confirmed that a cash machine will be retained at the current site allowing local people to make withdrawals as normal.

The machine will be retained when the property is returned to use and the bank has made a five-year commitment to keeping it there.

The commitment was secured by Harriett following a series of meetings with the bank’s senior management following the decision to shut down the branch in 2017.

Since the closure, local people have accessed services at a Lloyds mobile branch and customers are still able to bank at the town’s post office.

Harriett said: “It was naturally disappointing when Lloyds decided to close the last bank in town but I gained assurances from them about preserving the cashpoint machine – which is an important service for local people and the tourists who will visit the town this summer.

“I felt it was important to get a long-term commitment from the bank regarding the cashpoint and I am pleased with their decision to keep the machine where it is.

“Thousands of people will visit the town to come and enjoy the riverside pubs, shop and enjoy one of the many popular music festivals so having a permanent 24 hour a day cash machine is vital to keep the local economy strong.”
