MP welcomes measures closing tax loopholes

9th April 2019

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed measures introduced this week which will see more tax loopholes closed which have seen £200 billion extra revenue collected since 2010.

Thirty-five policy changes or measures came into effect on April 6 including the raising of personal tax allowances, the increase of the National Living Wage and business rates discounts for retail businesses.

The latest tax loophole closures are part of over 100 measures introduced since 2010 raising an extra £200 billion in tax revenues.

Harriett commented: “The increase in the personal tax allowances and the raising of the National Living Wage mean that more people get to keep more of the money which they earn.

“The last Budget outlined a series of measures to help working families and small businesses and people will start to see the benefit of these measures in their next pay packet.

“Alongside these changes, the important work of tightening the tax regime continues ensuring that people pay their fair share of tax, whoever they are.

“This Government has worked hard to identify and close loopholes which prevent the highest paid workers from paying their fair share of tax and that means billions of pounds extra to spend on vital public services including our local schools and treasured NHS.”
