MP welcomes Parliament return

21st April 2020

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today welcomed the return of Parliament which resumes sitting after the Easter recess.

The House of Commons is already managing a wide variety of meetings over video conferencing technology and Harriett has been participating in a number of Treasury Select Committee evidence-taking sessions.

The House has developed a ‘hybrid’ scheme mixing MPs attending the chamber and others asking questions of Government Ministers over the internet.

The revolutionary changes will come into force after they are formally approved today and business will resume in the new format this week, including Prime Minister’s Questions and questions to other Government Departments.

Harriett commented: “Over the weeks of this extended recess, I and my team, have been handling the huge deluge of constituent questions which are arriving day by day as the coronavirus crisis plays out.

“I am keen to continue my duties representing the people of West Worcestershire and ensure that their voices are heard in the House of Commons. This is a very difficult time for us all and I am determined to stay close to the heart of Government as it makes decisions which affect us all greatly.

“I’m also still committed to leading the Adjournment Debate discussing the permanent flood defence scheme in Tenbury, which was postponed before recess and will be re-scheduled as soon as possible.

“My work on behalf of local people continues as normal and I encourage any constituent who need assistance to email me at harriett.baldwin.mp@parliament.uk and I will do my best to help.”
