MP works with heads over A level results

16th August 2020

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has offered her support to local head teachers as they deal with unexpected A level results awarded last week.

And the MP has contacted the Schools Minister on behalf of The Chase which has seen a disproportionate number of grade adjustments.

A number of parents and pupils have contacted Harriett directly and she has urged schools to follow the appeal process and has also advised pupils to contact their universities, who are expected to hold university places open while the appeal is underway.

Harriett said: “I’ve been very busy over the weekend taking up individual cases with the Department for Education and I’ve also reached out to the local head teachers to get their overview on this year’s exam results.

“I’ve been concerned at the number of cases coming into my office from The Chase pupils and I have been in touch with Ministers to check if the school is able to carry out a block appeal on its results.

“I’ve been sharing the Departmental guidelines on how the appeal process will work and passing on the message that the Government has written to all university vice-chancellors asking them to be flexible and keep places open while appeals are assessed.

“Covid-19 has presented enormous challenges for schools and students and I’ve passed on my concerns to Ministers. I hope that the appeals process is carried our swiftly and efficiently and that pupils get the right results as they plan to enter further education.”
