Public transport plan reduced services for county rail users

20th March 2020

Local train and bus services will be reduced from next week following national advice to reduce non-essential travel.

Both West Midland Trains and Great Western Railway have briefed MP Harriett Baldwin on planned changes to the service which will see fewer trains running to and from stations in Malvern and Pershore.

First Bus are reducing to a Saturday service from Monday after reporting a 51 per cent reduction in travellers this week.

The West Worcestershire MP urged local people to plan ahead to make sure that journeys are possible with the changed timetables.

The changes are being implemented across the country as Government advice urges people to stay at home and work from home where possible – meaning that there is significant reduced demand for rail services.

Harriett commented: “With the Government urging us all to take appropriate steps to reduce our personal travel, it seems sensible that the rail and bus companies are scaling back their services.

“It’s still essential that key workers are able to get to work so I hope that the right provisions are made for these people but right now, I agree with the plan to offer a skeleton service that keeps the nation moving at this difficult time.

“I’m pleased to see Worcestershire County Council relaxing their rules to allow senior citizen bus passes to be used earlier in the day, especially as the supermarkets are rolling out special early hours openings for older customers.

“The broader advice is to avoid travel if you can and make sure you plan ahead to ensure you get where you need to safely.”
