Tiddesley Wood campaign gets parliamentary airing

24th February 2020

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today urged the Government protect ancient woodlands to help improve the natural environment and reduce carbon emissions.

The MP raised the ‘Save Tiddesley Wood’ campaign during questions to the Housing Minister in the House of Commons today.

Harriett has offered her support to campaigners who are seeking to protect ancient woodland which is threatened by a major housing development scheme on the edge of Pershore, submitted as part of the new South Worcestershire Development Plan.

Housing Minister Chris Pincher agreed with Harriett that there is a need to protect green spaces and maintain our ancient woodlands to ensure that we can live in a beautiful environment.

Harriett commented: “Our net zero carbon emission ambition will need us to plant many new trees, but I have been keen to make the point that we must also protect our ancient woodlands too.

“Green spaces are good for us and good for the environment and I am glad that the Housing Minister also recognises this important point too.

“The Tiddesley Wood planning application has caused extensive local concern and I am eager to press for the need to protect this land, and guarantee a quarter mile protection zone where developers can’t intrude on this much-loved wooded area.”
