MPs offer support to Worcestershire acute hospitals

5th February 2019

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin joined her Westminster Parliamentary colleagues offering her continued support to the county’s hospitals in Worcester, Redditch and Kidderminster.

The MPs have written to Health Secretary Matt Hancock welcoming new and hopefully stable leadership at the Trust.

The MPs gathered for a briefing on the current challenges facing the Trust as well as celebrating the opening of the new bridge connecting the main hospital building with new words in the Aconbury block.

The improvements, which are part of a £29 million programme, will add extra bed capacity at the county hospital as well as helping to improve services for patients at all three of the county’s acute hospitals.

Harriett commented: “It was useful to meet Matthew, who clearly has some huge challenges ahead of him dealing with some serious financial issues as well as the problems associated with a trust in special measures.

“Some of the problems are associated with the unsettled nature of the senior management and the high costs of recruiting temporary staff, so I hope that we are entering a period of stability where the team can get to grips with delivering wholescale improvement.

“As a group, the six Worcestershire MPs agreed to write to the Health Secretary repeating our continued support for the Trust.

“We were at pains to repeat the message that the staff continue to do an amazing job in difficult circumstances, and a period of stability will help the whole Trust to improve and deliver the best possible care for us and our loved ones.”
