Worcestershire County Council urged to bring forward the Tenbury Market Street wall repairs

15th October 2007

Harriett Baldwin this week wrote to Worcestershire County Council urging a speedier timetable for rebuilding the Market Street wall along the Kyre Brook.

In her letter to Cllr Derek Prodger, Cabinet Member for the Environment, she wrote, "I wonder if it would be possible to subdivide this large project into two parts. The people and traders of Tenbury are extremely worried that if we don't start these works until March 2008, we run a high risk that during normal winter rain, the Kyre Brook backs up and floods Market Street a fourth time. The wall that has fallen into the brook there used to prevent this normal level of flooding. Reinstating the wall will mean that the Environment Agency can complete their work in clearing the Kyre Brook.

The major part of the project is the reinstatement of the toilet block. Of course this is a significant project and it will take time."

Harriett Baldwin said, "I realise that our Town, District and County Councillors are all working hard to bring together their own resources as well as those of the Highways Agency, the Environment Agency, Advantage West Midlands and so on. However, I would like to see an immediate start to the Market Street wall repairs."
