Tenbury Flood Defence Action Plan

It was agreed that:

It is a case of when not if Tenbury Wells floods again but that the Environment Agency’s planned £30 million scheme cannot be funded or built within the current spending period to 2026.  A new Spending Review period will start in April 2026 and as yet the amount allocated nationally is not known.

A consultation is due to take place on how flood schemes like Tenbury’s will be funded in the future and we will continue to make the case for the permanent engineered scheme and retain the work already carried out to design the scheme.  Consultation responses will be sent by interested parties.

Tenbury Town Council will send a delegation of representatives to Westminster to meet with the relevant Ministers

Worcestershire County Council will review its response to flood events, identify measures which may help to reduce vehicle traffic through the town in times of flooding and identify strategies to carry out land acquisition to enable any future scheme to move forward quickly

The Environment and the Town Council will work together to encourage all Tenbury property owners who have been the victim of flooding, to enable surveying for potential individual property protection and to facilitate swift and urgent delivery of such protection through Environment Agency funding streams.

Malvern Hills District Council will advise on assisting properties that may currently be precluded from individual property protection owing to planning constraints

Local authorities and emergency responders will review the flood response time including securing better flood projection data

The Flooding Minister and the chief executive of the Environment Agency have agreed to visit and this must be used as a constructive opportunity to continue to lobby for the funding of the full defence scheme

Local nature-based flood resilience schemes will be expanded.

Worcestershire County Council will communicate with officials of Shropshire Council Council and Burford Parish Council to identify if Community Infrastructure Levy monies are accessible to support a future scheme.
