MP shops at re-opening Pershore stores

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin showed her support for Pershore retailers by doing some ‘non-essential’ afternoon shopping in the town.

Harriett visited the indoor market and chatted to retailers on the high street as more businesses open up across the county.

She was joined by Wychavon District Council leader Bradley Thomas, who briefed her on the progress offering support to local businesses as they try to bounce back from the coronavirus crisis.

Harriett has helped advise a range of businesses in the town about the schemes they can access to protect jobs and livelihoods.

Harriett commented: “The Government has taken swift action to introduce schemes to help businesses and self-employed people and the district council has been managing a vital grant scheme to help as many people as possible to get through this crisis.

“Having chatted to retailers who are now re-opening their doors, I feel optimistic that people are adapting well to the new circumstances and are ready to welcome customers back.

“I have done my own spot of shopping and I hope that many more people will feel confident about venturing out, following the social distancing guidelines and helping to kick start the economy by shopping in local independent stores.”

Wychavon District Council leader Bradley Thomas added: “It was a pleasure to join Harriett in visiting Pershore town centre as the economy reopens following coronavirus.

“It was reassuring to hear the initial confidence expressed by local shopkeepers and whilst there will be challenges ahead Wychavon District Council stands prepared to support local businesses and residents as we have done throughout this crisis.
