West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has urged local people to take extra steps to get fit as the nation continues its fight against Covid-19.
And the MP made a visit to Pershore Leisure Centre with Wychavon District Council leader Bradley Thomas to hear about how the gym has opened up to more users after the summer lockdown.
The gym has now fully opened to members and a pool refurbishment will soon be complete allowing people to swim at the popular leisure centre.
Most of the staff were placed on furlough, including casual workers, but classes are resuming and the centre will be fully operational as nights draw in and people need to exercise indoors more.
Harriett said: “I’ve been to Pershore Leisure Centre a few times and it really is a great place to get some exercise with an amazing view from the gym.
“The staff have worked hard to open up exercise spaces allowing people to work out together as safely as possible and although there is less capacity, more and more people are now visiting the gym again.”
“Staying fit is a good rule anyway, but as we face winter together with Covid-19 remaining a threat, I hope people will be encouraged to use their local gyms and pools to get regular exercise and get healthier.”
Council leader Bradley Thomas added: “Wychavon District Council has invested in quality leisure facilities to enable residents to fulfil their health and wellbeing aspirations.
It was reassuring to join Harriett in witnessing the safe measures at Pershore Leisure Centre where residents can have confidence that they can work out safely”
