West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has highlighted the work of a Tenbury nursery when quizzing Government Ministers about climate change action.

The MP urged local people to plant native trees to help combat climate change and source them from suppliers like Tenbury’s Frank Matthews Nursery.

Business Minister Kwasi Kwarteng confirmed that the Government was encouraging the use of UK grown trees and committed to support the preservation of areas of outstanding natural beauty including the Malvern Hills.

The Government is aiming to plant an additional 75,000 acres of trees each year by the end of the next Parliament backed by a £640 million ‘nature for climate’ fund.

Harriett commented: “Tree planting will form a crucial part of our strategy to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and I am glad that local businesses like Frank Matthews Nursery can play a central role supplying native trees.

“We’ve learnt from other international tree planting schemes that native trees are essential to successful woodlands. I’ve done my own bit by donating new saplings to local community projects and I continue to urge people to plant a tree or two if they can, ideally sourced from our local native trees, bought at local businesses.”
