West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed news that thousands of plants will be saved from waste after it leaped online to sell its stock.
Bransford Nurseries has teamed up with a new website – www.plantloveuk.co.uk – to sell bundles of plants to local residents.
The venture follows the closure of the nursery for drive-in customers and the threat that its stock would be sent to waste if it could not be sold.
The new website offers a safe home delivery service for plant stock and compost, meaning that local people living in postcodes WR1-WR14 can have a range of plants dropped at their doorsteps.
Harriett said: “This is a really good news story for a local nursery which was at risk of a major financial loss after it was forced to close its doors.
“I have been really heartened by this great piece of innovative thinking which will help a new business to prosper, help eager gardeners to shop for new plants and ensure that a popular nursery is able to sell its stock.
“We are seeing more and more rural businesses diversifying to improve their customer base including going online, and they are providing an important service for local people as they follow Government instructions to stay at home to help slow the spread of Covid-19 and save lives.”
