MP helps local charity to get a cash lift

Malvern charity Community Action will be getting a cash boost after being nominated for support by West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin.

The charity, which has provided extensive support for local people during the Covid lockdown, will be getting £1,500 from electricity company Western Power Distribution.

Harriett nominated the charity for support as it worked to help local people access food and other urgent supplies, especially for elderly and vulnerable people who were unable to leave their homes.

Western Power Distribution established a fund at the start of lockdown to support grass root organisations in delivering care to vulnerable people and families. It initially supported over 300 organisations with £500,000 funding.

As the lockdown lifted, WPD extended its support by a further £250,000 and offered MPs the opportunity to put forward a community group or charity for a grant to help towards its work during these challenging times.

Harriett commented: “I was really impressed by the way organisations mobilised at the height of the crisis to help the people who needed it most.

“Community Action has done an amazing job reaching out to the community and its volunteers deserve recognition for their efforts.

“I was delighted to be able nominate Community Action and I’m really pleased that they will be getting extra cash to help their continued good work in and around Malvern.”
