West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has today confirmed that work to raise a road link into Upton-upon-Severn is under consideration.
The A4104 link into the town became impassable during the latest round of floods and caused a major impact on trade in the town.
On behalf of Upton traders, Harriett asked the Army to set up a shuttle to help during the recent floods when they were stationed in the town. Road improvements and flood resilience were one of the key discussion points when the Prime Minister visited the town last month.
Harriett commented: “Both the Hanley Road and the road to Ryall were badly affected by the floods and I have asked the county council to look into what we can do to fix this problem in the long-term.
“The bridge into Upton is one of only a handful of crossing points on the River Severn in the south of the county and it is clearly important for the county's resilience to keep access open.
“The county council has written to me to confirm that a survey is already underway and plans are advanced to identify a permanent solution.
“It would also be valuable to consider improvements to the A38 junction at the same time.”
