Undecided voters got to quiz a panel of experts on issues ranging from the economy to law-making at a wide-ranging discussion at Malvern Cube last night. More than 100 people turned up at the session featuring West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin, former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith and the Bishop of Worcester, Dr John Inge. The panel session was chaired by emeritus professor in EU law Evelyn Ellis and featured contributions from Malvern Green Party chair Jackie Smethurst. Harriett commented: "This was an opportunity for undecided voters to ask questions and I answered a wide range of questions on the economic threat we face if we leave the EU. "The West Worcestershire economy is stronger and we will have more tax revenues to spend on our public services if we vote to Remain on June 23rd." Bishop John added: "The vote on whether or not to remain in the EU is arguably the most significant decision of our generation. The decision is significant not only for this country but for the rest of Europe and the world. "I hope this event gave people who haven't yet made up their minds, a chance to engage with the issues and allow them to reflect carefully before deciding where to place their cross." Jacqui Smith commented: "I was pleased to put party differences aside to join Harriett Baldwin in making the case to stay in the EU. "There was a wide ranging debate, but as a former Home Secretary, I was keen to emphasise that we are safer and more able to deal with global challenges such as climate change, migration and terrorism alongside our EU partners. "Both our national and international security depends on our membership of the EU.' Photo: (l-r) Jackie Smethurst, Jacqui Smith, Bishop John Inge, Evelyn Ellis and Harriett Baldwin MP.
