West Worcestershire Conservative candidate Harriett Baldwin helped to add a little extra buzz when she opened up a prestigious event to celebrate the rise of the electric car in Worcestershire.
Harriett is patron of the Malvern Hills Electric Automobile Association and was invited to formally open the event held at Malvern Theatre on Sunday (April 26).
Both Worcestershire County Council and Malvern Hills District Council have committed to installing re-charging points across the area and county councillor Anthony Blagg made a presentation at the event on the Worcestershire strategy for supporting the wider use of electric cars.
More than a dozen electric cars were on display including a Tesla, Porsches and the BMW i8.
Harriett said: “The brilliant brains of Malvern have led the way for many decades helping to exploit technology to improve our daily lives.
“Local inventions like radar have led to our homes having LCD TVs and microwaves.
“It seems to me that Malvern people have taken electric cars to their hearts and will lead the drive towards much wider use of the technology.
“I am pleased that there is already a network of charging points across the county and this will go a long way towards helping to stimulate further demand for electric cars.
“If I am re-elected on May 7 I will take the message back to Westminster that Worcestershire is keen to use more electric cars and make the most of this emerging technology.”
ELECTRAA honorary secretary Dan Wild added: “It was good that our patron could take time off from her busy electioneering programme to give support to the Electric Vehicle movement. We really did appreciate Harriett finding the time to fit us in.”
