Coffee mornings will take place this week across the country to raise funds for specialist nurses who help people living with cancer.

And as GP surgeries start to re-open after the pandemic, Harriett urged local people to make sure they get symptoms checked and to attend their screening appointments.

Harriett said:

“I was glad to take part in the coffee morning in the House of Commons to raise awareness of this initiative and I know that there is one in my own office complex in Malvern which I hope will be well attended.

“While our focus has been on covid for the last 20 months, many healthcare professionals are concerned that there may a risk of many more undiagnosed cancer cases and I repeat my call for people to get a check-up if they are worried about any symptom.

“Early diagnosis is critical to getting the best possible prognosis and many cancers are easily treatable if they are picked up early enough.

“I know that specialist cancer care nurses play an important role helping people living with cancer but we all hope that, as our way of life returns to normal, we are able to access all the basic services to spot and treat illnesses like cancer quickly and efficiently.”
