West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today praised Waitrose for its commitment to support local food producers. The MP was speaking on a tour of the local Malvern store where she met with local food producers who are given space in the store to sell their products. One of the producers introduced to Harriett was Roland Ballard from the Muddy Boots burger producers which were recently featured on a BBC TV show “High Street Dreams”. The Shrawley-based company was offering its burgers to customers in the store. Harriett also met suppliers including local water producer Holywell Spring Water and a chutney-maker, Asiri Foods. Harriett commented: “I know that many shoppers prefer to support local producers so I applaud Waitrose’s efforts to market local brands. “We have so many amazing products that are sourced in the county so it is important to ensure they survive and thrive. “I hope all of our local supermarket chains follow this lead and showcase the best produce that our region has to offer.” Scott Whittaker, branch manager, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Harriett into our store and discuss with her the way Waitrose works as a business. "Everyone here takes real pride in making a positive contribution to the local community and we appreciated the opportunity to demonstrate this, working with local producers to stock their fantastic products.
