West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today welcomed the news that public sector workers including nurses, teachers and police will all be getting a pay rise.
The announcement means that teachers will see a 2.75 per cent raise, the armed forces will receive 2.9 per cent and the police will receive an extra 2.5 per cent average pay increase.
Doctors and dentists will receive an increase of 2.5 per cent. Nurses are already getting an increase of 6.5 per cent over three years as part of a three-year deal agreed last year.
The pay rise, confirmed by the Treasury yesterday (July 22), is the second successive year that public sector workers have been given an increase above the rate of inflation.
Harriett commented: “It is important that public sector workers are properly rewarded in the important jobs that they do and I am sure that this good news will be welcomed across the board.
“We have world-class public services and we should pay staff properly to ensure that the can recruit and retain the best staff.
“I know that we all value the hard work public sector workers do and this above-inflation award is the Government’s way of saying thank you for a job well done.”
